Baby's First Art
Howdy!
I'm just gonna take a minute or two to talk about the environmental art going on in our game. Being such a small (and time-sensitive) project, most of the assets themselves are being sourced from packs on the Unity Asset Store. Here's a handy list of the packs that we're using so far:
- BarProps by SimpleModelsForMe (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/barprops-137130): This pack has a lot of restaurant-type tables and chairs that are being used to layout the in-game restaurant environment.
- Cutlery Silverware by devotid (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/food/cutlery-silverware-pbr-10693...): Does what it says on the tin; this pack has some silverware models that we can use to spruce up the table that we're sitting the player at.
- Wine Glass & Bottle by Brick Project Studio (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/wine-glass-bottle-124055): Again, pretty self-explanatory. This pack gives us the all important old grape juice for our hot date.
Using these I've been able to make a rough mockup of what the game's environment will look like. One of the challenges that this type of art pipeline presents is that you have to work with what the asset store gives you. On top of that, I've been using nothing but free asset packs for this, which limits what's available even further. Of course, it's a small price to pay for being able to skip the modeling/texturing part of our pipeline.
And that about sums up the environmental art progress so far. Again, it's hard to overstate just how helpful it is to have ready-made assets available to build with.
